Just completed a batch of Katazome (stencil-dyed) pillows, which I’ll be showing in Art-A-Whirl this coming weekend (May 15-17, 2009). Art-A-Whirl is an open studio and gallery tour of Northeast Minneapolis featuring more than 600 NEMAA artists, including; potters, tile makers, painters, sculptors, musicians, photographers, glass blowers, printmakers, jewelry makers, textile designers and more! I’ll be participating through Castle Building and Remodeling, Inc., 2600 Johnson St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418. Please stop by!

The prints behind the sofa are part of a 12-piece stencil-dyed calendar (on Kozo) by Serizawa Keisuke. I still need to change out the months! They are from 1971.

Oh my goodness, you have been busy! I have never seen such beautiful katazome pillows (even in Japan!) o_O

Have you ever thought about doing a show in Japan?!

Good to catch up with you-what fabulous cushions. Good luck with the show-only wish I could be there!

The katazome technique really suits your style, and your execution is beautiful Kit!

Mike and I have seen quite a lot of work by Serizawa – if those prints are originals they must be quite valuable! I love how your work and the prints complement eachother!

thank you – some day I would love to visit Japan — hadn’t really thought of doing a show there but what a worthy goal that would be!

Thank you! And thanks for visiting, Rosemary!

Hi Amy! Thanks a bunch! After I learned about Serizawa’s work from John Marshall, I was in pursuit of images by him — hard to find! The calendars are truly his designs, but I suspect they were executed by someone else. I have all the original packaging from Tokyo, which is fun. Some day I will get to Japan!
